$64,000 JAZZ - Various Artists
Viewers were glued to their TV screens in the summer of 1955 when a new hit program -- THE $64,000 QUESTION -- embarked. Interest in each topic that was chosen - opera, Shakespeare, the Bible - soared nationwide. When he was asked to be a consultant on the topic of Jazz, George Avakian of Columbia Records decided it would be prudent to prepare an album of $64,000 Jazz to capitalize on the popularity that would rise when that topic was picked by a contestant. This album is the result of that plan. Detailed discussions of the performances were written by Mr.Avakian.
